Addressing racial injustice.

In 2020, cities and communities across the United States experienced a long over due racial reckoning in response to the murder of George Floyd. For months our communities came together, under the leadership of Black women and youth to protest white supremacist systems and to demand accountable, restorative justice.

In the early winter months of 2021, our Asian American and Pacific Islander community members experienced a rapid increase in racially charged hate crimes from racial slurs, to assaults, to burglaries all across the country. Local businesses in the Jade District were targeted and many community members feared for the safety of their elders.

Last year we also witnessed the real time impacts of the climate crisis with Latine farmworkers laboring through oppressive and unsafe working conditions caused by wildfires and extreme weather to provide food to many of our tables - all without overtime pay.
